More action at Burrs Country Park – Following a visit by Caravan and Motorhome Club Directors to the opening of the station last October, they were so impressed with the new station and commitment from the ELR that work on creating 20 new pitches is being brought forward by 12 months. Work will commence on the 27th March with a completion date set for mid to late May depending on weather.
On behalf of the ELR Board and I am sure everyone across the railway, I want to congratulate Linda on making ELR history in becoming the ELR’s first female driver. I am only sorry I wasn’t able to be there to share that lovely moment for Linda and her colleagues. Whilst I hope Linda’s journey to becoming our first female driver will inspire others to emulate this achievement, its always a bit special to be the first one!!
For anyone who came to the Gala, I am sure they enjoyed the array of lovely steam locos on show. We have received lots of positive comments about how well organised the event was run, I even met one person who travelled from Bath, over 180 miles, to enjoy the Gala. Visitor revenue was up 40% on the 2016 figures.
Union of South Africa
Its official! We can announce that 60009 will be headlining our Autumn Steam Gala on the 14/15 October. There’s more! Before October, we can also enjoy seeing this fabulous looking loco which will be running over 4 days at Easter 14-17 April.
Readers of this blog will know that the Pete Waterman owned observation saloon is currently being restored. Whilst its out of action we have secured a coach which was built at the Derby Carriage & Wagon Works in 1927 as a 57 ft. first class corridor brake coach with four full compartments and one half non-smoking ‘coupe’ one, a brake compartment and numbered 5033. Our thanks go to the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Society who kindly loaned the saloon to the ELR. It will be arriving on the 23 March and be with us for the whole period until the Pete Waterman coach is back in service.
Sci-Fi on the Sidings
This event was ran for the first time in 2016. Such was its success that it is being run again on the 1/2 April. Advanced sales are going through the roof, so much so we are now running 3 trains (yellow timetable).
