November (2016) Roundup

This November has been a lot about Awards and the relaunch of the Company newsletter and a visit from ITV Granada.

ELR Newsletter

The newsletter is important in so far as we are able to keep everyone informed about what is happening right across the railway so check out this latest edition november-2016-issue-10-1

Lancashire Tourism Awards

We were shortlisted for Large Major Attraction and Santa Specials. Whilst we didn’t win in either category, it was a great achievement to be shortlisted.

ITV Granada

Check out the short video from ITV Granada by Jo their weather girl who enjoyed a trip back in time recently: http://www.itv.com/news/granada/update/2016-11-21/an-autumnal-ride-on-the-east-lancashire-railway-jo-takes-a-special-train-journey/

Wheelchair Accessibility

With over 5 million votes cast the ELR have been shortlisted in the national AVIVA Awards where there is a prospect of us securing up to £10,000, which would assist us in converting another brake van for wheelchair accessibility.

Next Steps

We now need to complete more forms with details of our carriage conversion project by the 7th December, so the guys in Commercial will be pulling out all the stops to make sure we are putting the ELR in the best possible position to win this money.

ELRPS – At their Council meeting last night (24 November)  it was agreed to provide financial support so the Company can convert a second brake van for wheelchair accessibility. Many thanks from me on behalf of the Company for this generous donation.

Bolton Street Canopy

002-2015-east-lancashire-railway-bury-bolton-street-station-canopy We all recognise the importance of the new canopy and how it has transformed platform 2 for us all to enjoy. The Commercial guys made a submission to the National Heritage Railway Awards, who run an annual awards for projects that protect and enhance railway heritage.  I am pleased to announce that the Canopy project has been shortlisted. The winners will be announced  on the 7 December.

Passenger Services

As many people know we lost Laura Duncan to the big railway recently. I am pleased to announce that Anna Duncan, after a round of competitive interviews has been appointed as the new Passenger Services Manager. I want to wish Anna great success in her new role.

Santa Season

We end November with the start of the important Santa season and I want to thank everyone who will, I know, make this a very successful season. Mike Moore would  like to recruit a few more elves, so if any ELRPS members could help out who haven’t already volunteered, please contact Mike Moore via the Booking Office.
